Sumiko Wellfleet Enclosed Architecture High Output MM Cartridge is the latest addition to the Rainier collection. This new cartridge features an enhanced version of the award-winning Moonstone design, with an optimized suspension for the best performance from a nude elliptical diamond, while incorporating the existing generator and resonance-optimized housing from the Rainier series.

The Wellfleet is designed with a highly polished nude elliptical stylus, which removes the bonding between the stylus tip and shank. This new assembly reduces excess mass in the shank, further decreasing tip mass for a faster, more direct, and accurate response from the stylus through the cantilever and magnet. As a result, it enhances sonic speed and sharpens central images, drawing them closer to the listener with greater detail.
With the Wellfleet, vocals are immediate, clear, and richly detailed, highlighting the warmth of human voice with hints of rasp and subtle nuances, supported by tight and well-controlled bass. Backing vocals are easier to identify, allowing listeners to distinguish individual instruments, such as the rattle of snare wires or the woody twang of vintage acoustic guitars. An improvement in surface noise is noticeable, creating a more spacious backdrop that enhances the overall listening experience.
Created for discerning audiophiles who value quality and affordability, the Rainier, Olympia, Moonstone, and Wellfleet cartridges enhance and complement our existing Oyster lineup. These new additions build upon and refine the sonic characteristics that listeners around the globe have appreciated for years. Innovative cartridge design tackles the challenge of resonance—ensuring that the necessary elements surrounding a generator can accurately voice a cartridge. The housing effectively disperses and dissipates resonance, leading to effortless, transparent sound enriched with subtle details. The voicing captures natural harmonics, creating space around vocals and instruments while preserving their attack and decay. Unique to these four models (along with the Amethyst), listeners will enjoy a refined backdrop that enhances sonic imagery, reminiscent of the qualities found in moving coil designs.

The newest lineup of MM cartridges includes the Rainier, Olympia, Moonstone, Wellfleet, and Amethyst (plus the RS 78 replacement stylus). All the styli are interchangeable, and the cartridge bodies are the same across the board, except for the Amethyst, which features an enhanced design to improve the performance of the line-contact diamond. In summary, you have two cartridge bodies and six replacement styli to select from, allowing you to customize the sound to match your preferences!
