Marantz PM-10S1 Premium Series Flagship Stereo Integrated Amplifier

The Marantz PM-10S1 Premium Series Flagship Stereo Integrated Amplifier boasts four switching power amplifier channels operating in bridged mode (two per channel) for enhanced control and performance.

Featuring a dual-mono design, the amplifier includes separate power supplies for the preamplifier and each power amplifier channel, with a dedicated transformer for the preamp. This configuration safeguards delicate signals from being affected by the demands of the high-power output stages. Additionally, there is a dedicated power supply for the microprocessor that manages volume adjustments and input selections, ensuring that no noise from the control section interferes with the audio signal.

Advanced Power Optimization

Achieving powerful sound with top-tier quality involves optimizing each amplifier section as if it were designed with separate components. Many amplifiers utilize a single transformer with regulated power for both the preamp and power stages, but the PM-10's dual-mono architecture goes further. It provides separate power supplies for each power amp channel and the preamp, ensuring that delicate signals remain pristine. The preamp’s transformer is dedicated, and even the microprocessor controlling adjustments like volume and inputs has its own power source to prevent interference with the audio signal.

Analog-Only Precision

The PM-10 is a completely analog amplifier, avoiding the digital components found in many competing models. Digital circuitry, often used for conversion or volume control, introduces electrical noise that can compromise sound quality. Marantz ensures purity by handling digital conversion in its external sources, like SA-CD/CD players, keeping the amplifier’s signal path analog. The PM-10 also offers "Purest Mode," disabling unnecessary circuits for maximum clarity. Additionally, the Power Amp input allows direct signal routing for pure power amplification.

Balanced Audio from Input to Power Stage

The PM-10’s fully balanced design ensures exceptional noise rejection and clarity by using separate paths for positive and negative signals, along with a dedicated ground. This balanced architecture mirrors professional audio systems, canceling out interference and ensuring a stronger, more resilient signal. The amplifier provides both balanced and unbalanced inputs, automatically converting unbalanced signals to balanced. By keeping the signal balanced throughout the amplifier, Marantz achieves superior noise reduction and pristine sound quality, enhanced by its optimized power supply design.

Marantz has a longstanding tradition of selecting top-tier components for its Premium Series, and when the ideal parts aren’t available, the company designs and manufactures its own solutions. This approach inspired the creation of the Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM). Unsatisfied with the audio fidelity of chip-based amplifiers, Marantz crafted a miniature amplifier module composed entirely of discrete components. Each version of the HDAM has been developed through extensive listening tests at Marantz facilities in Europe and Japan. The PM-10 features the latest HDAM SA3, employing a current feedback topology that ensures a wide frequency range and dynamic capability, making it well-suited for high-resolution audio formats. The design includes ultra-fast custom block capacitors for quick response to high current requirements. Additionally, the PM-10's phono stage features the same current feedback design, accommodating both moving coil and moving magnet cartridges for optimal vinyl playback. Marantz has consistently focused on delivering exceptional sound quality from LPs, equipping its products with high-quality phono stages even before the resurgence of vinyl music.

The PM-10, much like the SA-10 SA-CD/CD player/DAC, is constructed to meet the highest performance standards. It features a double-layered copper-plated chassis that effectively shields against mechanical and electrical interference, while its robust casework is made of thick, heavy, non-magnetic aluminum panels. Both units are mounted on precision-machined aluminum feet. The speaker terminals are particularly exceptional; where many competitors opt for components designed for looks rather than performance, the PM-10 includes Marantz’s proprietary SPKT-100+ terminals, crafted from high-purity solid copper. Every design and engineering choice in this reference-class amplifier is motivated by one simple principle: ‘Because Music Matters.’

Balanced Power and Bridged Amplifier Design

To deliver pure sound and powerful performance, the PM-10 uses a fully balanced, bridged amplification system. Unlike conventional amplifiers, a bridged setup uses two separate amplifier stages per speaker, providing greater control over speaker movement for enhanced precision and sound quality. This design enables the PM-10 to deliver 2x200W at 8 ohms and 2x400W at 4 ohms, ensuring clean, powerful sound even with challenging speakers. The use of advanced switching amplifier technology allows Marantz to pack this power and performance into a sleek, compact design.
